These are a few of my favourite things – Burgers
I love burgers. In my eyes, burgers are an amazing combination of carbs, protein, dairy, fruit, vegetables and condiments. Adelaide seems to have gone a little burger mad this summer with more food trucks and burger joints popping up around the place, and from what I hear there will be even more appearing in the coming months. So, you could imagine that my diet of late has consisted of a ‘few’ burgers. And don’t think that I’m talking about your typical Macca’s or Hungry Jack’s type burgers, I’m talking about gourmet, quality ingredients and construction type burgers. Let me share a few of the good ones that I’ve tried (in no particular order)…..
Burger Theory
The No 1 burger was the first food truck burger I tried. My friend Mal introduced me to this loveliness and I haven’t turned back since. When your burger pattie consists of Coorong Angus Beef, you know the burger is a bit special. This burger will always have a sentimental place in my heart.

Burgastronomy
I’ve had the Cheeseburger and a few sample bites of the Signature burger (which is a HUGE burger). I liked the Cheeseburger because it had a soft bun, the pattie was nicely seasoned and juicy and the taste of real pickles (unlike the Macca’s kind) was awesome.

Fancy Burger
Fancy Burger have an extensive menu, which includes beef, chicken, lamb, and veggie burgers, plus steak sandwiches and mini burgers. On the day of their ‘soft’ grand opening, a few friends and I wandered over to check things out and I tried the ‘Fancy That’ burger. It was a little different to the other burgers I’ve tried so far in that it’s served on a wholemeal seeded bun and the homemade herby mayo was to die for!

Chuck Wagon
The newest kid on the block; Chuck Wagon uses chuck steak mince in their patties which gives the patties a different flavour compared to the other burgers I’ve tasted so far. I’ve read that the flavour is due to the balance of meat and fat. It’s basically the original hamburger meat. I always order The Chuck, because it’s the smallest on the menu, and I love the flavour of the pattie with their special garlic aioli. I definitely feel content after eating one.

Sneaky Pickle
The Sneaky Pickle Texan Pulled Pork bun is the latest in my taste testing repertoire. Burger goodness coming from another food truck that is fast becoming very popular in the streets of Adelaide, this particular burger/bun is served not on its own but with a grilled corn cob and some tasty pickles! The pulled pork has a really spicy kick to it, so Sneaky Pickle have added a nice slaw to the bun to dial down the spiciness. The corn cob is beautifully sweet and it’s nice to alternate between bites of the bun and the cob. It’s definitely one of my favourite food truck treats!

What I’ve listed here only scratches the surface in regards to what is available in Adelaide, and that is what I love about this city: 1) you’ll never starve, 2) there’s something for everyone, and 3) there are those out there that have a great passion for food and they don’t mind sharing it with people like me. All in all, a win-win situation!
As much as I love eating a simple burger, my eyes get greedy. Towering gourmet burgers are hard to eat though and after I’ve made a mess, I often wish I’d made or ordered something a little more elegant.
Fat = Flavour is a good tip. I’ve heard of people mincing streaky bacon into their burger meat. My mouth waters at the thought.
My eyes get greedy too, but I hate to waste food and reason takes over 😀 It is true that fat = flavour and I think that’s what is different about the Chuck Wagon burger. The fat content is a little higher than the ‘cleaner’ tasting Angus beef burgers. They’re all very good though.
Great post Chook. I love burgers too.
Thanks Gary! It seems we like a lot of the same things 🙂
Indeed 🙂 It seems that way.
Yum! Lots of tasty lookin burgers. Pulled pork…my mouth is watering at the thought. lol
Hi Cindy! The pulled pork is pretty special. Very much melty-in-the-mouth kinda special 😀
You’re making me hungry. They look really good. I haven’t had one in over 3 months!
No burgers for over 3 months?!?!?! I suppose Vietnam wouldn’t have too many…although, why would you eat a burger in Vietnam when you have access to many awesome Vietnamese dishes?
I absolutely love this post. I’m going to Adelaide in two weeks. Will definitely go to one of the places. Thanks so much.
Thanks for stopping by and checking out my post! If you can only visit one burger place, I would recommend Chuck Wagon. If you have a bit more time, I would also recommend checking out Pearl’s Diner which is the stationary version of Burger Theory. It’s in the suburbs, but only about a 10-15 minute drive from the CBD.
Somewhere there’s an institution of higher education that’s missing its burger doctoral thesis because you’ve turned your talents to blogging. Burger academia’s loss is WordPress’ (our) gain.
LOL! Thank you for your kind words! I’m happy to share my insights whenever I can. Although, if there is a an institution that is offering a post-graduate course on burgastronomy, I wouldn’t mind finding out 😉
I am craving a burger!! And it is only 8:00 a.m. here 🙂
Wonderful post!
Thanks Judy! I’m always craving a burger so I know how you feel 🙂
I’ve never really been into burgers, but these look & sound wonderful, my mouth’s watering! We have a little local restaurant here that does a gourmet burger, I think I need one soon 🙂
Anytime is a good time for a burger in my book, especially if it’s done well. If you end up going down to the local restaurant for a burger, I’d love to hear about how the French do burgers 🙂
I’m currently utterly addicted to Burgers! At first, i thought it was just a phase but i can’t seem to get over it. My current favourite is Burastronomy. If only i worked in the CBD so i could try Sneaky Pickle!
