The Cooking Chook turns 2!

She’s back….. Those who have been following me for a while may have noticed that I’ve been a bit quiet of late. Not for any particular reason apart from life just….happening. I noticed in my calendar that The Cooking Chook was having an anniversary this week, so I thought it was a perfect opportunity to get back on the baking-cooking-eating-blogging bandwagon. But what could I make to mark this special occasion? I turned to one of my favourite foodie blogs, The Paddington Foodie. Read more…

When baking isn’t enough

Anything that lights your world leaves it dark once it’s gone ~ Ashly Lorenzana

The Cooking Chook has been a bit quiet in the last couple of weeks. I usually post a recipe every week, and sometimes I even do an extra post about something that I want to share with everyone. When things aren’t that great, I like to bake because baking is my refuge. It provides me with respite from all that is bad and helps me remember all that is good in this world. Unfortunately, the last couple of weeks have been exceptionally bad. Read more…

Happy 1st birthday Cooking Chook!

With my dreams of doing med next year all but gone for the time being, and feeling a little sorry for myself, I totally forgot that The Cooking Chook turned one last week! I can’t believe that I’ve been blogging for over a year now! When I started this blog, it was all about a promise I made to myself to try new things and this blog was my way of documenting that – kinda like a personal diary. Did I manage to keep that promise to myself? Read more…

New kid in town

There is something about reading a blogger’s first post that makes me really happy. I think it’s because every time I read that first post, I remember the wonderful feelings I had about sharing what’s in my head (and kitchen) with the WordPress community (and beyond). It was no longer about me having a passion that only I knew about; it was about reaching out and sharing my passion with others, who in turn, shared their passion with me. It’s always a bit difficult to break into a new group when you don’t know anyone, and don’t have anyone to introduce you so I thought I would take the time to introduce to you all, my friend Melinda who is the owner of the blog Bookabye Baby. Melinda and I have been friends ever since high school, and we share A LOT of the same interests including a love of reading books, which is the focus of Melinda’s blog. So, if you have a passion for reading and books too, please welcome Melinda to the WordPress community and check out her blog 🙂

It was a very good year

*breaks into song* When I was thirty-something, it was a very good year. It was a very good year for cooking great food and receiving KitchenAid tools. And meeting great people in the blogosphere. I wonder what the next year will bring. When I was thirty-something.

OK – so maybe I should leave the singing to Frank Sinatra. If you’re not familiar with this song, check it out on YouTube. Even though there are still five days to go until the new year ticks over, I thought I’d take some time to reflect on the year that has been. Read more…

Bloggers: We are a special bunch

Reality blogger awardsunshine-award

In the short time that I have been blogging, I’ve noticed a trend; that bloggers are a very special bunch of people. We share our most personal thoughts and aspects of our lives on this thing called the internet that allows us to connect with people all over the World. I’ve also noticed that fellow bloggers are supportive, encouraging and some of the nicest people that I have come across but have never met before. Where exactly am I going with this? Well, last week I had two of my fellow bloggers nominate me for blogger awards. I would like to thank Adelaidefoodies for nominating me for the REALITY Blog Award and Natural Euphoria for nominating me for The Sunshine Award. Read more…

Are you for serious? The Very Inspiring Blogger Award

The other day, I received notification that a fellow Aussie blogger at Life is short. Eat Hard! had nominated me for The Very Inspiring Blogger Award. Thank you so much for nominating me and I’m chuffed to know that you enjoy reading my blog! It still feels a little weird knowing that there are people out there who voluntarily take the time to read about my passion (or obsession) for food (and other random things). It’s been a wonderful bloggy journey so far and I’ve been in touch with so many other wonderful bloggers who also share my passion. Read more…
